question. Over 80% of the children received antiepileptic drugs before or during continuous video-EEG and the association between seizure burden and neurological impairment occurred despite these interventions. Whether more aggressive or earlier therapy would have improved outcome is not known and, as the authors note, studies assessing the relationship between seizure burden and the timing, efficacy and safety of interventions are necessary. However, overall, the study by Payne et al. (2014) would indicate that critically ill children with neurological involvement should undergo EEG and video monitoring and, if seizures are detected, they should be treated aggressively.

Repair of Spinal Cord Injury by Co-Transplantation of embryonic Stem Cell-Derived Motor Neuron and Olfactory Ensheathing Cell
Background: The failure of regeneration after spinal cord injury (SCI) has been attributed to axonal demyelination and neuronal death. Cellular replacement and white matter regeneration are both necessary for SCI repair. In this study, we evaluated the co-transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells (OEC) and embryonic stem (ES) cell-derived motor neurons (ESMN) on contused SCI. Methods: OEC...

Introduction: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the most serious clinical diseases, which not only affects the patient's physical and mental status, but its effects will be spread to family and community. After severe spinal cord injury, astrocytes of the central nervous system (CNS) become reactive astrocytes, and play the main role of glial scar formation. The scar is a major obstacle to r...

متن کاملPOST-TRAUMATIC CHRONIC SPINAL CORD INJURY: ASSESSMENT WITH MRI
The initial experience concerning the use of magnetic resonance imaging in 94 patients who had sustained chronic cord injury showed its specific advantages over traditional imaging modalities. A variety of 84 cord abnormalities were identified including myelomalacia in 47%, cord cysts in 37%, focal atrophy in 11 % and cord transection in 5%. Canal stenosis was seen in twenty-five patients, ...
